Song of the Soul: The Power of Music

Music brings a powerful depth to life. It allows us to express our emotions, experiences, and hopes. Songs are passed down through generations in hopes of preserving the past. Cultures and sub-cultures tell the stories of their experience. Rayos Del Sol is a Mariachi education program that is not only teaching students how to express themselves musically, but is reconnecting them to the music, culture, and language of their heritage. Reflective of the diverse community surrounding The Salvation Army Red Shield, the program is drawing in many second and third generation Latin-American students. Their gained appreciation for the music and language is bridging the generational gaps between family members who do not speak the same language.
